The Divorce Procedure

There is no doubt that getting a divorce is a difficult process for all parties concerned.  As well as the emotional impact there are many forms to complete and arrangements to make. We will be on hand to help you through the process step by step and advise you on the legal aspects of the decisions you make.

The Legislation which deals with considerations of the Court and sets out the applications available in relation to divorce is The Matrimonial Causes Act 1973

We follow The Family Law Protocol.  This is a guide produced by The Solicitors Regulation Authority which sets out what solicitors need to think about when dealing with a divorce to try and make the process as quick and easy as possible for the client.

The first step in getting a divorce is to prepare a Divorce Petition. The whole process can depend on many factors, including whether the person receiving the papers agrees to the divorce or agrees to the grounds and how many issues there are to resolve. The divorce becomes final when a Decree Absolute is pronounced that finally dissolves the marriage.
